The Sermon on the Mount represents the essence of both Christ's teachings and the teachings of Vedanta, an ancient Indian philosophy that teaches the oneness of life. God lies within us and at the same time is everything we see.
This realization is the aim of all the Vedanta teachings. Christ said, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." "The kingdom of God is within you." "Be ye perfect."
Although theologians are apt to explain away these teachings in various ways, the Vedantists believe Christ meant what he said. Listen to this remarkable recording and discover how Vedanta goes to the very heart of Christ's teaching. Vedanta came to the West in the late 19th century, not to supplant any religion, but to bring a more tangible spirituality to those who seek it. Its goal has never been to proselytize, but to help man realize the divinity within him.

This book is one of the best things that has happened to me. I had been distant from Jesus Christ due to all of the ridiculous occurrences I experienced in my Catholic faith (bad priests, radical interpretations of Christ's teachings, etc.) This book goes to the core of Christ's teachings in a loving, nonjudgemental manner. I have again fallen in love with Christ, as well as all of the other saints that have inhabited the Earth (Christian and non Christian.)Product details

The Sermon on the Mount According to Vedanta (Audible Audio Edition) Swami Prabhavananda Charlton Griffin Audio Connoisseur Books Reviews
This book is the most beautiful, touching, enlighting book I've ever had the upmost pleasure to read. None of the other hundreds of books about the Divine that I have read even come close to the simple, elegant, beauty of this book. I have filled a whole pack of notecards writting down "favorite" quotes, that really touch me, so many quote its practically the whole book. The writting is so easy to understand, and the examples so realivant, the reader feels like the book was written just for them.
If you only ever read one book, make it this one!!!!!
It's always interesting to see the outsider's view of something you have come to understand in one certain way; to see it through fresh eyes can make it new again. This book is a superb example of exactly that. It is probably impossible to come away from this book without a whole series of new insights, no matter how many times you may have read the Sermon on the Mount or how well you think you understand everything in it.
This book also serves to make the point that some of these Eastern swamis and gurus are scholars and thinkers of the first order. It really is a shame that our view of them often has been tainted by the antics of the charlatans and hustlers that came west beginning in the 1960s to exploit their own religious traditions for personal gain. If that has been your prejudice, Prabhavananda's book will be something of a revelation. Not to be missed.
Demystifies the spiritual nature and mission of Jesus of Nazareth. Puts him in more of an historical context than "religious" one. Explanations of Jesus' intentions and teachings are apt and highly grasp-able. Wonderful book.
I gave this 5 stars because there are no other legitimate comparisons between the Sermon on the Mount and Vedanta. Not just that, though--it is an unbiased treatment in either direction and addresses almost identical fundamental truths underlying each.
A long time favorite in paperback. Nice to have a hardback to last a long time!
Nice to read about an essential Christian message through the eyes of a Vedic monk who totally "gets" and respects the message!
Wouldn't it me wonderful for Christians to read, "get" and respect the messages of other religions!
As an interfaith minister, I find this book to be a wonderful tool for helping teach commonalities held by teachers of the Christian and Hindu faiths, respectively. This book is full of gems and solid teachings, and I highly recommend it for all age groups.
I thought this was a very deep spiritual understanding of this famous sermon, with not just literal interpretation of the meaning of the words, but also including great teaching stories from the Indian teachers and tradition. Jesus provided a great guide post to help one know Who They Are. The church seems to only focus on who Jesus was. This new understanding brings one closer to Jesus, not just in love but in taking one step closer to him by removing the veil of ignorance of the Christ that we are.
I have again fallen in love with Christ, as well as all of the other saints that have inhabited the Earth (Christian and non Christian.)
